Quick Overview

The wine: Club Privado is a fresh and fruity young wine made for early drinking. It spends just 6 months in oak barrels, leaving its blackberry and cherry fruit flavours bright and juicy.

The story: Baron de Ley is a modern bodega, built only in 1985. At its centre, it has restored a 16th century Benedictine Monastery, which now houses its offices. Surrounding this are its own vineyards, giving the winery the feel of a Bordeaux chateau. Most bodegas in Rioja buy their grapes from small growers but Baron de Ley prefers to be in control of every stage of its winemaking. It is situated in the Rioja Baja district, whose wines tend to be more opulent in style.

Tasting Notes

This is an easy wine to match with food as it goes well with just about anything. Steaks, burgers, sausages will all do well as will more adventurous dishes like pork and chorizo, pan-fried garlic chicken and paella.
