The wine: This is a very modern style of wine from this forward-thinking Catalan winery made from the international Cabernet Sauvignon and the very Spanish Garnacha . It receives long ageing in French oak barrels, which give it long, complex elegant blackcurrant and raspberry flavours and a touch of vanilla.

The story: Penedes is Spain's Cava capital and, while Pares Balta do make sparkling wines, they specialise in still wines. For some they use native grape varieties (the ones that go to make Cava) and for others they use international varieties
Since 2004 the vineyards have been officially certified organic They take their organic approach seriously, even keeping their own beehives in order to initiate pollination of the vines and keeping their own flock of sheep to fertilise the vineyards in autumn.
