The wine: New Zealand Pinots can sometimes be a little thin and tart for our tastes; this is the very opposite. Soft, rounded damson and berry flavours bathe the palate while the smooth, soft
tannins create the perfect framework. There's nothing harsh here at all, just super, soft, gentle warm flavours and a cedary oak finish..
The story: Heather and Meric Davies came to winemaking through the farming route. They grew grapes and sold them on to the bigger winemakers. Only when they saw the quality of wine that their grapes were making did they decide to create their own estate wines. Thank goodness they did. New Zealand producers are delighted with their success with Sauvignon Blanc but don't want to be a one-trick pony.
Pinot Noir has proven that they're not.
