The wine: Emina use the two local grape varieties here,
Verdejo and
Viura . The fact that it's made from 90% of the superior Verdejo means that it has true Spanish character and lots of that typical fruity, musky Verdejo character.
The story: When we think of
Spain we think of red wines like those from Rioja and Ribera del Duero. But there is a lot of white wine here, too. It was very difficult to make good whites in this hot climate 20 years ago but the advent of
Stainless steel computerised technology meant winemakers could control the
temperature at every moment of the winemaking process. In the
Rueda region in northern Spain they embraced this idea totally and now make good, crisp, easy-drinking white wines at very attractive prices.
